Michael J. Scola

Michael Scola is a partner in the firm’s Geneva office. Mr. Scola’s practice focuses primarily on insurance subrogation, and defense matters, specifically in products liability, premises liability, and construction defect litigation. He has experience representing clients throughout all stages of the litigation process including: coordinating scene inspections and artifact examinations, working with experts and clients to develop sound causes of action, collecting crucial evidence through discovery, and using that evidence to achieve favorable results, including through trial.

Mr. Scola’s product liability focus involves developing and coordinating large-scale and complex civil litigation against product manufacturers, including representing insurance company clients nationwide against home product manufacturers. He has also been successful in representing his clients utilizing alternative dispute resolution methods in both Illinois and Wisconsin, resolving cases through mediation and both binding, and non-binding, arbitration.

Mr. Scola has been invited to speak at large industry events and for individual clients on a range of topics related to subrogation recovery efforts and litigation strategy, including speaking at both the National Conference and Litigation Skills Conference for the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP). Mr. Scola has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star, consecutively, since 2019.

Mr. Scola attended Loyola University Chicago as the John F. Cuneo Scholar, a four-year full tuition scholarship, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2007. He earned his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School in 2010. While in law school, Mr. Scola was a frequent member of the Dean’s List and recipient of multiple CALI awards. Prior to his admission to the Illinois Bar, Mr. Scola clerked for Judge Timothy M. Witkowiak in the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, Law Division, and for the Honorable Chief Justice Patience D. Roggensack of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as a judicial extern. Mr. Scola is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Illinois.
