Daniel W. Berglund

Daniel Berglund is the managing partner of the firm’s Minneapolis and Portland offices. His practice focuses on civil litigation related to catastrophic property loss, including fires, explosions, hurricanes, floods and other weather-related losses, equipment failures, production facility losses, and losses caused by negligent design and construction. Mr. Berglund has extensive experience related to coverage disputes between insurers and policyholders, including extra-contractual claims. He has also been involved in a number of multi-million dollar subrogation recoveries. Mr. Berglund also is experienced in resolving matters through alternative dispute resolution.
Mr. Berglund’s publications include “Applying the Attorney-Client Privilege to Investigations Involving Attorneys: What is Fair Game in Discovery? The Attorney-Client Privilege in Civil Litigation,” 4 ed. A.B.A 2008, Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (co-author) and “Taking the ‘I’ Out of Suicide: The Minnesota Supreme Court’s Alarming Extension of Duty in “Exceptional Relationships,’” 28 W. Mitchell L. Rev. 1307, 2002. His presentations include Excluding the Expert Witness in a Fire Case, Effectively Handling Fire Litigation, at the Minnesota State Bar Association CLE (co-presenter); and “Payback: When is the Insurer Entitled to Repayment?” at the 2017 American Bar Association Property Insurance Law Committee Annual Spring Meeting (co-presenter).
Mr. Berglund earned his Bachelor of Arts in French in 1996 and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 2000 from the University of Minnesota. He earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2003. He was also a staff member of the William Mitchell Law Review from 2001 to 2002 and Editor of the William Mitchell Law Review from 2002 to 2003. Mr. Berglund clerked for the Honorable Edward Toussaint, former Chief Judge of Minnesota Court of Appeals (2003-2004) and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Michael Davis, U.S. District Court (2003).
