Grotefeld Hoffmann had the honor of hosting the 2026 Lloyd’s Non-Marine Under 30s group in Los Angeles last week. This event brought together emerging talents in the Lloyd’s of London market, including underwriters and brokers of varying classes of non-marine insurance and reinsurance business, to explore the ever-evolving facets of the North American insurance market.

The group began the day at the UCLA Luskin School for Public Policy for presentations by university professors on pressing issues surrounding the Great Los Angeles Fires of 2025 that are at the forefront of the insurance industry in the state of California and United States. Additionally, several members of our firm presented on issues surrounding subrogation and catastrophic losses, including Mark McGuire, Michael Scola, Meghan Rodda, Joel Radakovich, and Kaitlyn Dent.

Following the presentations the group enjoyed a trip to Dodger Stadium to watch the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Miami Marlins on Japanese heritage night and to continue our discussions on the North American insurance market, while also fostering the lifelong relationships forged on such a memorable day. GH attendees included Anooj Thakrar, Daniel Berglund, Patrick Jarosch, Laura Johnson, Jessica Odum, Lilla Shkolnikov, Adam Trabish, Liv Kyle, Hunter Seibert, and Anna Ratterman.

Grotefeld Hoffmann had the honor of hosting the 2024 Lloyd’s of London 30 Under 30 Tour in Miami, Florida. During this biennial event, up-and-coming members of the Lloyd’s of London insurance market study insurance-related businesses. Joel Radakovich and Meghan Rodda organized the event, which featured presentations and discussion with scientists from University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Sciences as well as a tour of the wind-wave-storm simulator at the Alfred G. Glassell Jr. SUSTAIN Laboratory. The event also featured the following presentations from Grotefeld Hoffmann:

Mark McGuire and Mike Scola presented “Tackling the Claim” with Van Fisher of Envista Forensics.

Patrick Jarosch and Kevin Schummer presented “The Impact of Climate Change on the Insurance Industry.”

Grotefeld Hoffmann proudly shares that Michael J. Scola was named a Rising Star by the Super Lawyers Rating Service for 2023. Once a year, Super Lawyers invites lawyers in each state to nominate the top attorneys they’ve personally observed in action, and Super Lawyers’ attorney-led research staff identifies other outstanding lawyers who have been overlooked in the nomination process. Super Lawyers then evaluates each lawyer in the candidate pool based on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement, and a peer evaluation by practice area is completed followed by a final selection. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less, and no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in Illinois are named to the Rising Stars list.
